Schubert’s Unfinished Quartet —finished!

Extrapolation by Livingston Gearhart.

In 1820 Schubert wrote the first 42 bars of a promising slow movement he never finished. This work was Intended as a slow movement to follow the famous Quartetsatz we all know and love. In 1990 Livingston Gearhart was presented with a copy of this fragment and what resulted was this beautiful extrapolation of what Schubert might have written.

In 2003 the Oregon String Quartet recorded both the first and now the second movement of this Unfinished Quartet by Schubert.

This fantastic piece is available on this disc.
